Today is one of the greatest days! It's Pączki Day!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!
So for those of you who don't know what that means:
"A pączek is a deep-fried piece of dough shaped into a flattened sphere and filled with confiture or other sweet filling. Pączki are usually covered with powdered sugar, icing or bits of dried orange zest. A small amount of grain alcohol (traditionally, Spiritus) is added to the dough before cooking; as it evaporates, it prevents the absorption of oil deep into the dough."
Very similar to doughnuts but not quite the same, a little Polish deliciousness. And today we eat them (okay really it's last Thursday but here in the US it's today)!

In Buffalo, Toledo, Cleveland, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Milwaukee, South Bend, and Windsor, Pączki Day is more commonly celebrated on Fat Tuesday instead of Fat Thursday. Chicago celebrates the festival on both Fat Thursday and Fat Tuesday, due to its sizable Polish population...In Hamtramck, Michigan, an enclave of Detroit, there is an annual Pączki Day (Shrove Tuesday) Parade, which has gained a devoted following..." (these definitions were pulled from wikipedia but it's very true).
I have eaten mine as a good Polish gal should, hope you all have gotten your fill too! Also: Joyeux Mardi Gras!!!! What a fabulous day, huh? Hope you're living it up big easy style (or Polish style or both).
I'm spending my first "day off" in awhile sitting about, went to physical therapy, enjoyed the sunshine, applying heat to my back, eating delicious cookies, reading my fave blogs, and watching "17 Again", "Fools Rush In", and "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion". Delightful! Not too shabby. Hope you enjoy(ed) your day as much I have been! :D
