Sunny With a Chance of AWESOME!

So friends, today was kinda awesome. Remember how I wanted to put my acting career first? Guess what happened today. I auditioned to replace an actress at 11AM, was cast at 11:45AM, rehearsed 12-5, and basically was told the following. 1) I am going to be paid (yes, cross that off my 2012 goal list), 2) for publicity my face will be on a bus. WHAT?! A BUS?!!!!! I feel like Carrie Bradshaw, I just need a tutu and champagne (no mud please). 3) I am privileged to work with 3 amazing actresses who are pretty big deals. 4) I'm the lead an have 5 rehearsals before an audience sees me-AHHH!!! So I'm super duper stoked. Big time producers, directors, agents, actors are coming to see the show. AHHHH!!!! So excited/nervous. Thank goodness I have my family & friends to stop my major freak out session & remind me to breathe and get to work memorizing lines!

The only downside is that the show I was stage managing is now going to be without a stage manager. I feel bad because I committed to that project and I am friends with the director. I feel really horrible about it all. I am seeking out a replacement so if you live in LA let me know if you want the gig. It pays and the people are awesome!

So today was a pretty big deal. Things are starting to move acting wise for me. SO SO SO grateful for my friend who talked me up and got me the audition. He is a true gentleman and friend. So grateful for the opportunity & that I was ready when it came knocking! :D

CLOUDY (YESSSSSSS) With a Chance of Sleepy!

Oh Theatre Thursday...well I had an audition Monday for MacBeth-it went so well I got a callback!

Thursday at 8:30 I call-backed the crap outta that place! I was there (with 4 other actors) playing until 10ish. We were all reading for Hecate & the Weird Sisters (aka the witches). It was fun, silly, intense, and exhausting. But damn it felt good to act the shit outta that space. :D

Then I picked Joe up at 12am from school/soccer/chess club. We went to bed at 1:30am. Did I mention I had gotten up at 6 to go to work, worked, ran home to drop the dog off, ran across town to the back doctor, ran home to grab work out clothes, ran across town the other direction to do PT, changed then ran across town back the other direction to downtown for the call back, ran home to scarf down dinner, ran to USC to pick up Joe, then went home again? I didn't? Well that's what I did. SO TIRED. :)

Thank goodness for the weekend! OH WAIT, what weekend? We are swamped with things this weekend to do. I don't think I have time to rest until the end of October in all honesty. Oh well grateful to be busy and for the opportunity to act this week. Keep it up universe! :D

Sunny With a Chance of an Audition!

I have an audition next Monday night-WOOT WOOT! I love having auditions. Especially when they are cold read auditions!!! I hate doing monologues, I do, I admit it. I feel lame & never very great at them. But boy oh boy do I rule at cold readings. You want off the cuff auditions then I am your girl & I will nail the shit of that baby! It's true, I will. So Monday I have an audition for MacBeth. Which I love.

I love the show. I love Shakespeare. I love that it's cold reading Shakespeare so they'll really be able to see if I can handle it or not. I love it all! I also love that it reminds me of MacBeth in college directed by this man right here:

Frank Rutledge-I miss you! "Creepy music, creepy music, creepy music-Kunzui! What the fuck are you doing?!" was this very show. It's where I met my college best friends (we were the Thane's Wives!). It's where my appreciation for Shakespeare began to grow into a love & obsession. It's the show that housed so many laughs within the green room (Ropera! quotes about licking your fingers after you poop, Bowman's nipple). It's a show that will always have a special little piece of my heart.

I am excited to audition for it once again & hopefully be apart of a production once again. I love me some Scottish Play! :D

Sunny With A Chance of Is It Fall Yet?!

Hello Theatre Thursday! How the heck are ya?

So let me tell you about that shoot I was apart of that earned me my SAG-E status! I just love saying/typing that. I am SAG-E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Back to business. The shoot was oodles of fun and sleepless nights. I got to work with 3 guys whom I adore. I met them in a play that was not so great but they were amazeballs. And this project is a delight. Keeping Up With the Downs is a story about 3 brothers all in some sort of turmoil. These 3 actors are fantastic and it was joy sharing a set with them. There were SO many hilarious moments (scene at a Spoken word with lines like "My last pair of shoes was less than $15, they lasted 2 years. Now I'm no mathematician but that is less than $15 a year" and "Gandalf. I don't hate Gandalf.") and some really long nights-NO SLEEP! But it was all so worth it!

I met some really great people too! Some new Second City friends-hopefully I'll be taking classes with you soon, some out of town friends (VIVS!), some in town friends, some pretty big deal friends (Friends being the key word), and some behind the scene friends. It was just a blast to work with such a great cast and crew!

And the wrap party? Awesomesauce. Check it out yourself, we all went to Brass Monkey Karaoke Bar and the fun lasted for hours!

Sunny (again) With a Chance of SAG Vouchers!!!!

Friends I am so excited that this Theatre Thursday gets to be about great news for my acting career!

I have some pals that I worked with on a show here in LA about a year and a half ago. They wrote & produced & starred in this amazing web series Keeping Up With the Downs. Well now I get to work with them on set & earn some SAG vouchers! HOORAY!

So basically to join SAG (or the Screen Actors Guild) you need to earn 3 vouchers (or Taft-Hartley) before you can join SAG. And this project will be putting me one step closer to that (then I'll just have to pay my initiation fee). The scoop on why this is AWESOME is that SAG actors get paid more (it's now a union job when you work) and are eligible for a lot more jobs than non-union actors. You can then also join ANY other acting union-so my AEA eligible can become AEA, I can join AFTRA, etc. which again means more job opportunities that pay more. Plus I guarantee that every single one of your "favorite actors" are part of one of the professional acting unions out there.

This is so very exciting my friends & I could not be happier as I feel like I am getting just that teensy bit closer to doing what I love as my job. One day soon I am hoping to say to the world (and on my taxes) that all I do professionally is ACT!! :)

Hope your Thursday is going just amazingly chickens!!! :D

90 Degrees With a Chance of Shrek the Musical!

Y'all there has been some major theatre in my life this week! It has been AMAZING and just what the doctor ordered to relieve this stress from work & finances.

So last Monday (7/11/11) I saw my friend John Roy perform his new routine to be taped for Comedy Central at a local Hollywood bar. There were some HUGE comic peeps there (Maria Bamford & Steve Agee to name a couple). It was free, SO hilarious, and a huge stress reliever. Plus John was amazing (as always) and I was so proud to be there to support him!

Last Tuesday (7/12/11) my dear sister from another mister Heather Olt performed her cabaret show Believe it or Not, It's Just Me at the same local Hollywood bar. It was STUPENDOUS! She looked, sang, and wise-cracked magnificently. It was another fun stress-free night. Joe & I are so lucky to have such wonderful & super talented friends!!

This past Sunday (7/17/11) Joe and I went to an 11AM showing of Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 2...it. was. so. AWESOME. We had the movie theatre pretty much to ourselves to cuddle and sip root beer (best movie time ever) and the film was epic. Even Joe said it was one of his fave Harry flicks. Just an all around great way to start our sleepy Sunday morning!

Then Sunday night Heather took me to see Shrek! The Musical at the Pantages theater and it was so funny and cute and a wonderful break from life. They had great little shout outs to other big Broadway musicals and cute things from the movie but it had SO MUCH MORE! It was just wonderful and we followed the show up with $3 beers from Dillon's next door on Vine. Who could ask for a better date right?!

So my friends, do yourself (and your elevated stress levels if you're like me right now) and go take yourself to a good show (comedy, cabaret, movie, musical, play, whatever) with a friend or you boo and have a fantastical night (or morning) off from life! You deserve it! ;)

Take care chickens!

Sunny With a Chance of Zombie Shakespeare!

I just watched that Simpsons with Zombie Shakespeare-too funny!

So for this Theatre Thursday I just had an audition to be a plus size model in a runway show!! It's pretty exciting-all proceeds go to building houses in Haiti which is amazing, it also is sponsored by apple-bottom jeans, forever 21, and a few other smaller designers. The down side is I don't get paid. Thus I'm torn.

I love doing anything for good causes but as a performer I am a professional and believe in our unions and get paid for the hard work we do. Plus things are really tight in the ol' bank account and mama needs some money!

I'm talking with some dear friends who are in the 'biz to get their opinions as well as my physical therapist as this would affect my back (high heels are NOT my back's friend). I'll keep you posted. The audition was fun & staying for the rehearsal after was fun & really informative. We'll see what I decide.

Still haven't heard about the VW 1920's commercial-this usually means you can assume you didn't get it. It's a bummer but I did have fun getting all gussied up so I', keeping positive on it all. I'll just keep on submitting until it happens. No fear friends! You'll be seeing me soon on your small screen (or maybe the nearest big screen)! ;)

Til then I'm going to keep up with writing my script & with submissions & audition! :D

Take care chickens!
